The railway runs on a 4,6 km long narrow-gauge line (gauge 80 cm) and overcomes a height difference of 1’635 meters. The driving speed is 9 to 12 km/h uphill and a maximum of 9 km/h downhill. This results in a travel time of 30 – 40 minutes. On 4th June 1889, the Pilatus rack railway took guests to the local mountain Pilatus for the first time.

In a driving time of 5 minutes you reach the glacier mountain TITLIS 3’239 m. The route length is 1‘513 meters and the cable car overcome an altitude difference of 583 meters over glacier area and rocks. In 1913 the first funicular ran from Engelberg to Titlis Gerschnialp and in 1967 the first aerial tramway ran to Titlis. On Titlis you find also the hundred-meter-long highest suspension bridge in Europe, the Titlis Cliff Walk.
DOUBLE-DECKER WORLD FIRST CABRIO RAILWAY with open upper deck on STANSERHORN

The Cabrio railway travels 8 meters per second, overcomes 1’139 meters of altitude difference and reaches the summit in 6 minutes 15 seconds. The Stanserhorn funicular took guests to Stanserhorn for the first time in 1893.

The STEEPEST FUNICULAR IN THE WORLD with four round cabs leads to STOOS. With a gradient of 110%, however, the passengers are always standing completely horizontal. The 1‘740-meter-long route with an altitude difference of 744 m is reached in 4 minutes at a driving speed of 10 meters per second. The Stoos funicular took guests to Stoos for the first time in 1933.
RIGI railway is the first mountain railway in Europe
The RIGI railway ist he first mountain railway in Europe and was opened exactly 150 years ago on 21st May 1871. Previously, the noble lords were carried with palanquins to Rigi Queen of the Mountains. Today you can reach Rigi Kulm over the approximately 7 km long route from Vitznau or Goldau in just under an hour comfortably in the “red or blue railway”. Particularly attractive is the 360° panoramic view of Rigi Kulm with a view of 620 alpine peaks and 13 lakes.
Bürgenstock with EUROPE’S HIGHEST OUTDOOR LIFT
The Bürgenstock with EUROPE’S HIGHEST OUTDOOR LIFT can be easily reached from Lucerne with the catamaran “Heugümper” MS Bürgenstock to Kehrsiten. The nostalgic red funicular takes you to Bürgenstock. The opening of the 944-meter-long Bürgenstock funicular took place on 8th July 1888. Arrived on Bürgenstock, you walk along the easily accessible path along the rock to the “Hammetschwand” outdoor lift. The technical masterpiece of Europe’s highest outdoor lift almost takes your breath away when you ride 152 meters along the steep cliffs for just under one minute.
